Recipe: Steak Sandwich with Green Onion Aioli
My weekends are usually reserved for experimenting in the kitchen. Sometimes I'll try a new recipe, and sometimes I'll throw together what ever is in sight, and hope that it turns out somewhat edible.
This week was one of those weeks where instead of cooking skirt steak the same way the last few times, I grilled it with simple seasoning and stuffed it in a sandwich.
I did cheat a little, though. I found a simple aioli recipe to help add flavor to an otherwise plain sandwich.
Makes about 4 sandwiches
Shallow 3-Quart Baking Dish
1 lb skirt steak
1 tablespoon olive oil, plus 2 more tablespoons for grill pan
1 medium red onion, sliced
1. In a shallow baking dish, lightly coat skirt steak with olive oil, then season both sides with salt and steak seasoning. Let sit for 15 minutes.
2. Heat grill pan on medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon oil then grill steak 3-4 minutes per side. Transfer to plate and let sit 5 minutes before slicing into 1/2 inch pieces.
3. Add remaining oil to grill pan and grill onions until soft. Transfer to plate.
4. Assemble ciabatta bread on plates. Spread green onion aioli on bread slices and top with cooked steak and grilled onions.
